Glass fiber diameter

Glass fiber diameter can also affect the physical properties. In general, fiber diameters from 6-17. im have been used in PBT, with the narrower fibers giving slightly better properties. However, fiber length distribution and fiber content may play a more important role than diameter [32], Fiber content in a PBT composite is often measured by specific gravity and by ash content. Both of these measurements need to be corrected in cases where the blend is pigmented or combined with other materials. [Pg.306]

Our future work will incorporate the use of a flat plate calorimeter which has continuous temperature adjustment of the warm surface. From these results we hope to separate the heat transport through these insulations into two terms, conduction and radiation. If it is feasible to make this separation we will be able to determine the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity. The flat plate calorimeter will also provide a means for determining how the thermal conductivity depends upon the applied force. In addition, these studies will enable us to optimize the glass fiber diameter and insulation thickness at a given temperature. [Pg.197]

Glass fibers <3 fim are to be avoided because these are classed as respirable fibers which can enter and damage lung passages. Most glass fiber products have sufficient fiber lengths to prevent lung entry even if their diameters are <3 fim. [Pg.69]

Step 1. A single crystal with the largest dimension equal to about 0.01 mm to 0.3 mm is mounted on a glass fiber which in turn is mounted on a copper pin. The copper pin is placed on a goniometer head which in turn is placed on the goniometer (Fig. 13). The crystal is positioned manually in the center of the goniometer. In this position, the crystal is always in the center of the monochromated incident x-ray beam (whose diameter is about 1.0 mm). [Pg.377]

Fibrous fillers are now gaining more importance over particulate fillers due to the high performance in mechanical properties. The influence of fiber diameter on the tensile behavior of short glass fiber on polyimide was reported [95], At higher concentrations thick fibers seem to be more advantageous probably because of the... [Pg.833]
