Geological regions

This section provides information on the range of environmental conditions that occur in deep-well-injection zones in different geologic regions of the U.S. The section on lithology discusses the types of sedimentary formations that are suitable for deep-well injection and confining layers and provides some information on geologic formations that are used for deep-well injection of wastes. The section on brine chemistry discusses the typical range of chemical characteristics of formation waters found in injection zones. 

The occurrence of radium-228 has not been as well established, and additional data would be helpful, particularly in geologic regions where high concentrations are likely. There is virtually no information on the occurrence and levels of radium-223 and radium-224 in drinking water. The occurrence and levels of any of the isotopes of radium in food are highly variable, and additional data would facilitate exposure estimates. 

Atmospheric deposition has been repeatedly shown to be the major source of sulfur deposition in many forest ecosystems, especially in regions significantly impacted by acid deposition (Mitchell et al., 1992b). The formulation can represent several layers of geological regions in the soil and does not require the mesh discretisation of the interface between layers. As a consequence, the computational cost of the simulation does not increase with the number of layers.

It is now possible to engineer sand screens specifically for the different geological regions around the w oild w here the optimum balance betw een oil production and sand exclusion can be easily attained. XTiether this has an effect on the current price of oil is another matter... ...
