Genomic sequence data

That bacterial resistance predates the era of clinical use of antibiotics by several hundred millions of years is the recent result of genomic sequence data mining from antibiotic-producing microorganisms. These are supposed to be the inventors of antibiotic resistance genes which they had developed to protect themselves from the lethal action of their own antibiotics [4]. 

These problems lead to the conclusion that the original genomic sequence data should be used as a reference when studying a particular protein of interest, especially when it appears that the standard protein translation of that sequence is in conflict with expectations. 

There is a family of criteria employed to prioritize investments in collection of genomic sequence data intensively studied organisms, important human pathogens, comparative genomics, ecological and economic impacts, and key basic scientific issues. 

Table 1 describes all the microbe-specific databases, and Table 2 lists databases for the microbial community. These databases provide genomic sequence data, gene and protein information, gene expression data, metabolic reactions and pathways, interaction network,...

Use as a tool (see Note 1) for genome search and annotation that integrates microbial genome sequence data with most eukaryotic sequence data as well as viral and plasmid sequences (8). 

Attempts to manage specialized scientific information have given birth to the new discipline of informatics. The branch of informatics that deals primarily with genomic (sequence) data is bioinformatics, whereas cheminformatics deals with chemically oriented data. Informatics examines the way people work with computer-based information. Computers can access huge warehouses of information in the form of databases. Effective mining of these databases can, in principle, lead to knowledge. 

The rapid accumulation of genomic sequence data and associated gene and protein annotation has catalyzed the application of gene expression analysis to understand the modes of action of chemicals and other environmental stressors on biological systems (see Figure 5.1). These developments have...
