Generic drugs prices

The maximum cost that the third party will pay for a multisource drug. This typically is an average of the generic drug price drug from several manufacturers. 

This is the basic problem with any attempt to evaluate the overall effectiveness of placebos, as Beecher and the Danish researchers had tried to do. There is not just one placebo effect. Instead, the placebo effect depends on a host of factors. It depends, for example, on the condition being treated, the way in which the placebo is administered, the colour of the placebo, its price, whether it has a recognized brand name and the dose that is prescribed. Studies of the placebo effect reveal that, all else being equal, taking placebo pills four times per day is more effective than taking them only twice a day brand-name placebos are more effective than placebos presented as generic drugs placebo injections are more effective than placebo pills and more expensive placebos are better than cheaper ones.16... 

An increase in competition between manufacturers of generic drugs does indeed cause a drop in prices. The entry of each new competitor brings about a price reduction of between 5.6 per cent and 7.2 per cent an increase from three to six competitors results in a drop of between 17 per cent and 22 per cent. 

An equitable international drug price structure could also be attained by setting differential licence fees and allowing generic competition to work within each price segment of the international market. 

Fines Enhancement Laws of 1984 and 1987 increase penalties for all federal crimes, with double fines for corporations. The Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act expedites the availability of less-costly generic drugs by permitting FDA to approve generics without repeating the safety and effectiveness research.

As indicated above, the status of generic versions of both pre-1962 and post-1962 new drugs was settled by Congress in the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984. That statute will be discussed in greater detail below.
