General anesthetics ideal

Pharmacological Profile. The profile of the ideal local anesthetic agent depends largely on the type and length of the surgical procedure for which it is applied. Procedures could include neuraxial (spinal and epidural) anesthesia, nerve and plexus blocks, or field blocks (local infiltration). In general, tine ideal agent should have a short onset of anesthesia and be useful for multiple indications such as infiltration, nerve blocks. [Pg.100]

Cyclopropane, a gas used with oxygen as a general anesthetic, is composed of 85.7% C and 14.3% H by mass, (a) If 1.56 g of cyclopropane has a volume of 1.00 L at 0.984 atm and 50.0 °C, what is the molecular formula of cyclopropane (b) Judging from its molecular formula, would you expect cyclopropane to deviate more or less than Ar from ideal-gas behavior at moderately high pressures and room temperature Explain,... [Pg.422]

Pain and hyperthermia at the injection site can be reduced by pre-administration neural blockade, and administration during general anesthesia. Ideally, Adlea may he applied to patients receiving anesthesia and post-operative analgesia with epidural and peripheral neural blockade catheters. Residual pain may be controlled with local application of ice packs, local anesthetic infiltration, and oral acetaminophen. [Pg.503]

When used without sodium fluorescein, proparacaine is widely used as a general-purpose topical anesthetic. It produces little or no discomfort or irritation on instillation and is therefore readily accepted by most patients. When compared directly with tetracaine, 86% of patients reported that proparacaine caused less pain on administration. Unopened bottles may be stored at room temperature, but once opened the bottles should be tightly capped and, ideally, refrigerated to retard discoloration. Discolored solutions of proparacaine should be discarded. [Pg.89]
