Gemfibrozil Carbamazepine

Paxeus, N. (2004) Removal of selected non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), gemfibrozil, carbamazepine, p-blockers, trimethoprim and triclosan in conventional wastewater treatment plants in five EU countries and their discharge to the aquatic environment. Water Science and Technology 50(5), 253-260. [Pg.725]

In a recent study, Walters et al. [141] described the occurrence and loss of several PhC from biosolid-soil mixtures exposed at ambient outdoor conditions for 3 years. Some compounds showed no detectable loss over the monitoring period, including diphenhydramine, fluoxetine, thiabendazole and triclosan, while half-life estimates ranging from 182 to 3,466 days were determined for others such as azithromycin, carbamazepine, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, tetracycline, 4-epitetracycline, gemfibrozil, norfloxacin and triclosan. These findings highlight the potential use of T. versicolor to reduce the impact of biosolids once released to the environment, which could reduce the concentrations of PhC in much shorter periods of treatment. [Pg.151]

Diphenhydramine, diltiazem, carbamazepine and norfluoxetine have been reported simultaneously in the same wild fish [107]. Moreover, diclofenac was found accumulating in vultures [119], fluoxetine, sertraline and the SSRl metabolites norfluoxetine and desmethylsertraUne were detected in fish [120]. Diclofenac bioaccumulation factors were 10-2,700 in the liver of fish and 5-1,000 in the kidney, depending on exposure concentrations [40, 121]. Gemfibrozil occurred in blood plasma of goldfish after exposure over 14 days at 113 times higher levels than in water [40]. [Pg.231]

STPs are found to be the major contributor of pharmaceuticals in the Ebro River water. Compounds more frequently detected in the Ebro River basin were analgesics (diclofenac, naproxen, ibuprofen), lipid regulators (gemfibrozil, bezafibrate), antibiotics (azythromycin, trimethoprim, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole), the antiepileptic carbamazepine, the antihistaminic ranitidine, and the 6-blockers atenolol and sotalol, which are the ones of major consumption in Spain as well as the ones excreted at higher percentages as parent drugs. Concentrations detected in both waste and surface waters are from 100 to 1000 times lower than the levels reported to cause acute toxicity. However, with respect to chronic effects, for some of the most ubiquitous compounds the margin of safety is narrow. As a wide spectrum of pharmaceuticals has been detected in natural waters, effects of mixtures should also be taken into account. [Pg.297]
