Gasification projects under development

Municipal solid wastes (MSW) gasification unit which is under development in the project consists of two fluid bed reactors (Figure 2). The first reactor is a gasifier, the second reactor is a combustion chamber for charcoal. To obtain producer gas of middle calorific value water steam is applied as a blowing. Fluid bed is organized by supplying water steam to gasifier (inert material is sand) and air to combustion chamber. The installation is equipped with all necessary devices to measure rate, temperature, and pressure. 

Demonstration Projects. Commercial and demonstration projects under way include a 150 T/D coal gasification unit at the Ruhrchemie Chemical Plant Complex in Oberhausen-Holten, West Germany (5 ) which has been in operation for over a year. This research and development demonstration plant is jointly funded by Ruhrchemie A.G., Ruhrkohle A.G. and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. 

With these factors in mind, the availability of pipeline-quality gas from coal may be projected to rise from about 0.1 Tcf in 1976 to 0.3 Tcf annually by 1980, with these volumes most likely entirely attributable to Lurgi-type plants. Gas available from added facilities based on the newer process technologies currently under development is projected to bring the total annual volumes of gas available from coal gasification to about 1.4 and 3.3 Tcf, respectively, in 1985 and 1990.
