Another survey published in 2000 yielded a much higher figure for herbal drug use. Forty percent of patients at a health maintenance organization (an HMO) took herbal drugs, according to a survey published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association. The herbals most frequently used were garlic, aloe, cranberry, and echinacea. 

Ancient papyrus provided written records of early Egyptian medical knowledge. The Ebers papyrus (from around 3000 bc) provided 877 prescriptions and recipes for internal medicine, eye and skin problems, and gynecology. Another record, from the Kahun papyrus of around ISOObc, detailed treatments for gynecological problems. Medications were based mainly on herbal products such as myrrh, frankincense, castor oil, fennel, sienna, thyme, linseed, aloe, and garlic.

For pneumonia aloe, eucalyptus, juniper, garlic. Cassia spp., grapefruit seed extract, essential oils of thyme or oregano. Large spotted spurge (Euphorbia hypericifolia), spotted spurge (E. maculata), Euphorbia lathyris.
