Fungicidal compounds

In the previous review (91YGK205, 99H1157), we reported that l-hydroxy-4-nitroindole forms active ester derivatives by reaction with carboxylic acids, which can be applied to acylation of various nucleophiles. To expand the scope of the reaction and obtain novel fungicidal compounds, an attempt has been made to prepare derivatives of wasabi phytoalexin 109 (98P1959). 

This one-directional transport behavior results in a leaf treated with fungicide being protected as a whole. Active substance is transported into the apical region of newly developing leaves however, redistribution into these leaves is limited because the active substance must first be transported downward in the phloem of the treated developed leaf before it can be transported via the xylem to the apical region of the newly developing leaf. For fungicidal compounds like triadimenol and triadimefon, which are predominantly if not exclusively transported in the xylem, this type of transport... 

This paper will consider the basis for the principles of disease control by non-fungicidal compounds, the current research results, and the prospects for their future use. Induction of disease resistance by biotic agents will also be included because non-fungicidal substances might be involved in this process.

Similarly, Perozo-Rondon et al. [22] gave the microwave enhanced synthesis of N-propargyl derivatives of imidazole (xxii, xxiii, xxiv) involving the Knoevenagel condensation reaction. The synthesized derivatives proved to be good fungicidal compounds.

Research in recent years has shown that protective chemicals in plants can operate in disease resistance. Some of these chemicals occur in disease-free plants, but fungicidal compounds can build up in tissues in response to attempted infection. When this occurs, these defense chemicals are known as phytoalexins. Papers to be presented at this conference by Cutler et al., Harborne, Bailey,...

The research for new fungicidal compounds forms the second part of this section. Some compounds having nematocidal activity were isolated by preparative TLC from leaves of Piper beetle (piperacae).
