Functionalized polyesters block copolymerization

The selection of monomers for polymerization and copolymerization was based on frmctional groups, av abihty, and eost. Polyester production can be achieved by using monomers with multiple acid or alcohol functionalities. For this project, the monomers also need to be easily obtained from a renewable biomass soiuce at low costs. The U.S. Department of Energy sereened chemicals from biomass for building block potential based on their abilities to be transformed into a range of different starting materials, to replace a currently produced building block, and to become a super commodity chemical [15]. [Pg.2651]
