Attitude of the grower to organic fruit growing (positive+1, neutral 0, negative-1)... 

The ideal of self-realization is a strenuous one. Is it too demanding Would communist society exclude or stigmatize those who prefer the passive pleasures of consumption, be it in the contemplation of pushpin or of poetry Would an allocation of resources to facilitate the process of creation do an injustice to those who would rather enjoy the fruits of creation 1 confess to some doubt here. While I feel confident that the passive attitudes of many persons in contemporary societies are largely the result of remediable social causation, I am not at all sure that they could never be the object of an autonomous choice. I am not sure, that is, that if freed from such constraints as lack of time, energy, money or self-esteem, everyone would spontaneously choose creation over consumption. And since 1 do not think this can be decided in other ways than by the individuals concerned, the uncertainty should lead to some caution in the implementation of the ideal. 

Attracted by the wealth and accuracy of the information provided by X-ray crystallographic analysis, organic chemists utilize this powerful tool to infer mechanistic and conformational hypotheses based on structural data [20J, though it seems implausible that static, crystalline species could reveal any information regarding the dynamics of transition states. This attitude has been particularly fruitful in the study of weak intermolecular forces such as hydrogen bonding f2l and Lewis acid-base interactions [22, 23], and obviously carbony 1-Lewis acid complexation is not the exception. 

One important area that demands further study relates to the ability of plant scientists and agronomists to modify the composition of fruits and vegetables to enhance levels of phytochemicals or to introduce relevant genes into other species in order to broaden the occurrence of these compounds in the diet, as presented in Chapter 6, on sulforaphane. In this area, as in many others, the public s attitude to future genetically manipulated plants and foods will be cmcial. 

A survey of the attitudes of hospital personnel indicates that Pharmacia Upjohn have gained good-will through their recycling efforts. This enables fruitful discussions between the producer and the customer on environmental improvements on product and packaging designs.

While we have harely touched the surface of the myriad ways to process plastic, you hopefully now have a good idea of just how versatile these materials are. Sometimes the use of a specific process is justification alone for using plastic. Plastic is kind of like Bubba Blue s shrimp in the movie Forrest Gump. Shrimp is the fruit of the sea, he said. You can barbeque it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saut6 it,. .. pan fry, deep fry, stir fry..While I would not use any of these particular methods to process plastic, I like Bubba s attitude (Table 2.1).
