Forrest Gump

In Boorman s Excalibur we observe Arthur, the idealistic and cuckolded king, but we do not identify with him. We position ourselves far more easily with Merlin the magician, a man above the worldly and otherworldly goings-on of Excalibur. We understand, and even like, the character of Forrest Gump, but do we identify with him I think not. In hyperdrama, the main character is the important vehicle for the story, but no more than that. 

To use some film analogies, you might emotionally identify with troubled and somewhat retarded Karl Childers (played by Billy Bob Thornton) in the film Sling Blade, or with Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) in the film of the same name, or with Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell), the boy from a British coal-mining town who wants to study ballet in Billy Elliot, or with a number of the troubled young teens irStand By Afe—but this doesn t mean that you d want to be friends with any of them. 

While we have harely touched the surface of the myriad ways to process plastic, you hopefully now have a good idea of just how versatile these materials are. Sometimes the use of a specific process is justification alone for using plastic. Plastic is kind of like Bubba Blue s shrimp in the movie Forrest Gump. Shrimp is the fruit of the sea, he said. You can barbeque it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saut6 it,. .. pan fry, deep fry, stir fry..While I would not use any of these particular methods to process plastic, I like Bubba s attitude (Table 2.1).
