From unsaturated compounds

The reaction is illustrated by the preparation of ethylbenzene from acetophenone the resulting hydrocarbon is quite pure and free from unsaturated compounds ... [Pg.511]

The principal direct appHcation of furfural is as a selective solvent. It is used for separating saturated from unsaturated compounds in petroleum refining, for the extractive distillation of butadiene and other hydrocarbons in the manufacture of synthetic mbber and for the production of... [Pg.79]

The formation of alkylbenzenes, largely free from unsaturated compounds, provides another interesting application of organosodium compounds. Thus pure -butylbenzene is readily obtained in good yield from benzyl-sodium and n-propyl bromide. Benzyl-sodium is conveniently prepared by first forming phenyl-sodium by reaction between sodium and chlorobenzene in a toluene medium, followed by heating the toluene suspension of the phenyl-sodium at 106° for about 36 minutes ... [Pg.934]

The carbanions can be generated from unsaturated compounds either by reduction or by addition. [Pg.14]

Phosphonium salts can be synthesized from unsaturated compounds by addition of a triarylphosphine and an acid in the presence of a palladium or rhodium catalyst. Transition metal catalysis turned out to be effective for the synthesis of organophosphorous compounds. [Pg.503]

As alternatives to ozonolysis, other oxidations are used to prepare aldehydes from unsaturated compounds treatment of alkenes with chromyl... [Pg.78]

James and Martin [14] were the first to use GC for checking the separation of methyl ethers of saturated fatty acids from those of the unsaturated acids in a separation method involving the use of lead salts. As a result of the use of the bromination reaction the molecular weight of the products formed from unsaturated compounds increases abruptly, and the products do not emerge from the column and do not appear on the chromatogram. Bromination was also used for isolating unsaturated compounds and to improve their separation from saturated compounds by GC [15]. [Pg.162]
