Frog Pond

Amphibians such as frogs and salamanders depend heavily on temporary ponds for breeding. These ponds are highly vulnerable to the "acid shock" events associated with storms or snowmelt. In several studies, reproduction of amphibians has been shown to be seriously restricted when acidity of their habitat decreases to a pH value of less than 5 14). [Pg.56]

Adults feed on many pest speeies the young are aguatie, so a pond is reguired. This is an adult frog. [Pg.98]

Migrating frogs will tend to colonize a suitable pond within a year or two. If none appear, the pond is either unsuitable or cut off from their migration. If you suspect the latter, introduce some frog spawn taken from a healthy garden pond within, if possible, half a mile of your garden. Do not take frog spawn from the wild. [Pg.122]
