Although evidence suggests that exercise improves the efficiency of protein utilisation in horses, no allowance is currently included for this. Lysine has been shown to be the first limiting amino acid, and the lysine requirement is calculated as 4.3 per cent of the CP requirement. The protein requirements of growing horses calculated by the French NE system are similar to those predicted by NRC (2007). 

In 2000, French researchers announced the first gene therapy cure in nine children with X-linked severe combined immune deficiency (X-SCID). This rare condition is caused by the inherited loss of a protein that is part of the docking site for critical immune system signal proteins. Because of this defect, children with X-SCID have no mature, working lymphocytes—critical immune system cells. 

As a result, they are so susceptible to viral and bacterial infections that they rarely survive infancy. In the French scientists research, blood stem cells were removed from an affected child, treated with a retroviral vector carrying a normal docking protein gene, and returned to the child. Nine out of ten children treated in this way developed functional, mature immune system cells, which provided them with protection against infections. News articles proclaimed that a cure had been found. 

Ultrafiltration is a French originated process that uses a membrane filtering system. In its raw form, whey contains protein, lactose, ash, and some minerals. This should not surprise anyone since whey is the bi-product of cheese or casein production from milk. The original ultrafiltration method separated the ash and lactose from the whey protein resulting in a product providing about 35-70% protein. E. coli cells were disrupted by passing through a French Pressure cell at 10,000 psi and the CCTl polypeptide was fractionated by the FPLC protein purification system equipped with a HiTrap Q column (5 ml). The activity was measured in 20 x of standard reaction mixtures containing 50 mM Tris-HCl (pH 8.0), 5 mM CTP, 25 mM MgCl2, 5 mM DTT and 4 mM [m r/zyZ- Clphosphorylcholine (1,000 dpm/nmol).
