If the ocean freight charge is 7.50 per ton, the cost f.a.s. port of consuming country is 45. It is often necessary to rebag the material at die port of entry. This cost must, of course be added to the f.a.s. port of entry cost.

Today there are many different ways to ship products around the world and some are more expensive than others. An evaluation of transportation methods needs to be completed to see what would be the best for both companies. Sometimes this may be a combination of several methods. 1 was involved in a situation where material was coming in from Japan as a liqnid. It had to be transferred to a barge in the Gulf of Mexico and pnshed np the Mississippi River to a port where the barge was unloaded into tmcks and taken to the final destination. There are many types of containers that are available today of various sizes when ocean freight has to be used. 

When we think about logistics, we think of trucks initially, but there is also ocean freight as well as railroads. Ocean freight and railroads tend to deal with larger volumes of materials. These need to be considered because for larger volumes they may be cheaper cost-wise, but are the deliveries dependable enough is the question.

The cost of ocean transport depends on a large number of factors the cost of -the-ships-or the cosboTchar--tering the ship, distance, ship speed, fuel cost, crew cost, port charges and time in port, number of destination ports, and the supply and demand for shipping space. The last factor is important in that it causes freight costs to fluctuate widely..
