Fragmentation, definition induced

A definite theoretical explanation of this behavior is not available. It is important to realize that the preference of a metal for 3C as opposed to 2C complexes or for 5C as opposed to 3C complexes may be either intrinsic or induced by adsorption of less reactive carbonaceous fragments and carbon (for simplicity, we shall refer to both of these as carbon ) on the metal (alloy) surface. Also, the choice of the reaction conditions (apparent contact time, poisoning or self-poisoning of the catalyst, etc.) influences the temperature range in which the catalysts can be tested, and since the selectivity in various complex formations is also temperature dependent, one must always analyze which aspects of the product distributions are intrinsic properties of a metal and which are induced by often unavoidable side reactions. 

By definition, a structural subunit is repeated periodically in an oligomer or in a polymer inducing a corresponding periodicity of fragmentation in the mass spectrometer. If a fragmentation series due to such a periodicity of structure is detectable, an analysis of the sequence of monomers in oligomers is possible. This may be discussed in the case of amino acid sequencing in peptides ... 

Molecular ions (or quasi-molecular ions) observed in mass spectra only provide information regarding the mass of the analyte molecule. In the absence of frt -mentation there is no structural information. Collision Induced Dissociation (CID) spectra on the other hand can provide significant structural information about the precursor ions. Even if the CID information cannot always be interpreted to draw a definitive structure, the pattern of fragment peaks derived from a particular precursor under defined dissociation conditions does provide a fingerprint of that precursor. It is thus particularly useful in establishing that the same analyte mass, observed in separate samples, represent the same structure. 

Therefore, based on classic shear lag analysis (also based on definition of shear strain), it can be shown that for a fixed strain rate (function) the effect of increased cross-head rate can be induced by increasing the interphase thickness (i.e., application of fiber sizing). Indeed, the experimental results reveal shorter fragment lengths for increased cross-head rate and/or presence of fiber sizing.
