Fig. 4 shows the morphologies of fractured cement pastes with and without SBR dispersion or powder observed by ESEM. Irregular hydrates is observed on the surface of cement particles in the control paste after 10 minutes, and AFt or calcium aluminate hydrates with relative regular shape are also found (Fig. 4 (a)) while at this time a polymer-particle layer is seen on the surface of cement particles in the pastes with SBR dispersion or powder, and AFt or calcium aluminate hydrates appear among the polymer particles (Fig. 4 (b) (c)). [Pg.61]

Hardness and solubiUty for other carbides make TiC an important component of siatered cemented carbides. Although the addition of TiC or WTiC2 to WC—Co alloys imparts crater wear resistance, it also reduces the transverse mpture strength and fracture toughness of these alloys. There are less exotic ways of increasing the strength of cement and concrete. One is to impregnate it with a polymer, which fills the pores and increases the fracture toughness a little. High-pressure squeeze cementing operations are utilized where the hydraulic pressure is used to make new channels in the rock formations (by fracturing the rock) and force the cement slurry into these channels. [Pg.1225]

Low-pressure squeeze cementing operations are utilized where the existing permeability structure is sufficient to allow the cement slurry to efficiently move in formation without making new fracture surfaces with the hydraulic pressure. [Pg.1225]

Squeeze pressure is applied at the surface. If high-pressure squeezing is practiced, the formation is broken down and the cement slurry pumped into the fractures before the hesitation technique is applied.
