The following parameters may be determined inulin clearance (GFR), single nephron GFR, fractional delivery of water, sodium and potassium in proximal and distal tubules and in urine. All data are expressed as mean values SEM. Now filter the ether through a fluted filter-paper directly into a 100 ml. distilling-flask, and then equip the latter with a 100° thermometer and a double-surface condenser to the end of the latter attach a receiver with a rubber delivery-tube precisely as before. The choice of these values is arbitrary. In practice, the cooling fraction will depend not only on the combustion temperature but also on the compressor delivery temperature (i.e. the pressure ratio), the allowable metal temperature and other factors, as described in Chapter 5. But with ip assumed for the first nozzle guide vane row, together with the extra total pressure loss involved (k = 0.07 in Eq. (4.48)), the rotor inlet temperature may be determined. These assumptions were used as input to the code developed by Young [11] for cycle calculations, which considers the real gas properties. [Pg.65]

Other schemes involving dichroic dyes with heat and electrical fields are also possible. Each of the possibilities could use the plastic structure of the substrates, its durability, or both. This approach would recycle the material for carrying the printed messages at the point of use, eliminating handling and distribution costs, and would require a fraction of the enormous amount of paper now consumed in delivering news and other literary material. The newspaper or periodical would have the familiar size and appearance and would present little change to the reader. The convenience of real on time home delivery and other built in aspects of the system would make it a useful successor to the present one. Recently, water-soluble protein fractions, isolated from extracts of bone matrix, were incorporated into a collagen matrix and shown to induce bone (67,68) and cartilage formation both in vitro and in vivo (69,70). In the latter studies, in the absence of the collajgen delivery system, the proteins were incapable of inducing cartilage formation in vivo when implanted intramuscularly into mice. The success of this approach appears to depend on delivering the active agents at an effective dose over an extended time period. [Pg.239]
