Semi-solid formulations

It is suggested that, as a minimum routine for the final test of an alleged antibacterial semi-solid formulation, the following be used. 

A number of azetidine-based compounds have been disclosed in patent applications from Aventis Pharma for CBi-modulated treatment of diseases such as obesity, Parkinson s disease, schizophrenia, respiratory and neurological diseases [330-334]. Compound (556) was specifically claimed for use in two formulation patent applications [330, 331] for a stable semi-solid composition and oral emulsion composition, respectively. The optional coadministration of an agent that activates norepinephrinergic and se-rotoninergic neurotransmission (for example, sibutramine) or dopaminergic neurotransmission was also claimed for the treatment of obesity. The optional use of a dopamine agonist (for example, levodopa) was claimed... 

For a liquid or semi-solid pharmaceutical dosage form, it is crucial to include a preservative in the formulation. Commonly used preservatives in these systems include sodium benzoate, EDTA, sorbic acid, and parabens. A generic HPLC method is also recommended for the preservatives used in liquid formulations for routine monitoring to ensure the stability of the preservative itself and it must be validated specific to its use with the dosage form. Administration of oral solution - A prazo am intensol is a concentrated oral solution. It is recommended that the oral solution be mixed with liquids or semi-solid food such as water, juices, soda or soda-like beverages, applesauce, and puddings. Use only the calibrated dropper provided with this product. Draw into the dropper the amount prescribed for a single dose. Then squeeze the dropper contents into a liquid or semi-solid food. Stir the liquid or food gently for a few seconds. The formulation blends quickly and completely. Consume the entire amount of the mixture of drug and liquid or drug and food immediately. Do not store for future use. 

Gun propellants are manufactured by three different methods (i) solvent method (ii) semi-solvent method and (iii) solventless method. The solvent method is that most commonly used for the manufacture of gun propellants. Selection of the method for manufacture basically depends on the properties of the raw materials and the propellant formulation. While there are limitations for the manufacture of gun propellants by solventless and semi-solvent methods, the solvent method may be applied for almost every gun propellant formulation. The solid-liquid ratio of the ingredients and the type of nitrocellulose used usually decide the feasibility of manufacture by the solventless method.
