Formulation thixotropic agents

Thixotropic agent Undergo reversible crosslinking reactions via hydrogen bridge bonds, forming a gel structure Added as the last ingredient in the formulation. Mainly used for water-based acrylics... [Pg.192]

Neokunibond Optigel CL Osmos N. Major constituent of Bentonite and Fuller s earth. Used as a binder and plasticizer for ceramic formulations ion exchange builder in detergents thixotropic agent for liq. soaps flocculant for water treatment. Industrial chromatographic techniques White powder bulk d = 300-370 g/l. Kaopolite. [Pg.424]

Other thixotroping agents include Bentones and Tixogels, of which a number of grades are available, and China clay or kaolin, usually added as a filler, but which imparts thixotropy to the formulated product. Organofunctional silanes are extremely effective... [Pg.818]

Formulation. Polysulftde-based sealants are formulated with appropriate ingredients to obtain the desired properties for a particular appHcation. A typical formulation contains Hquid polysulftde polymer, curing agent, cure accelerators (bases) or retarders (acids), fillers, plasticizers, thixotropes, and adhesion promoters. [Pg.457]

Various additives and fillers may be employed. Calcium carbonate, talc, carbon black, titanium dioxide, and wollastonite are commonly used as fillers. Plasticizers are often utilized also. Plasticizers may reduce viscosity and may help adhesion to certain substrates. Thixotropes such as fumed silica, structured clays, precipitated silica, PVC powder, etc. can be added. Adhesion promoters, such as silane coupling agents, may also be used in the formulation [69]. [Pg.797]

Fillers (calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, aluminum oxide, bentonites, wood flour) increase the solid content of the dispersion, and they are added up to 50%, based on PVAc. The purpose of their addition is the reduction of the penetration depth, a thixotropic behavior of the adhesive, gap filling properties, and the reduction of the adhesive costs. Disadvantages can be the increase of the white point and possibly the more marked tool wear rate due to greater hardness of the adhesive. Other components in PVAc formulations are defoamers, stabilizers, filler dispersants, preservatives, thickeners (hydro-xyethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose), poly(vinyl alcohols), starch, wetting agents, tackifiers, solvents (alcohols, ketones, esters), flame retardants, and others. [Pg.910]
