Fig. 10.27). A fluorinated silane self-assembled monolayer was first applied to the master to aid in the separation of master and stamp. The stamp was formed using one of the following procedures. For thinner stamps, PDMS (Sylgard 184) pre-polymer mixture (1 10) was poured over the PR master and a 250 pm thick, 13-inch x 13-inch Mylar film was placed on top of the liquid PDMS. The prepolymer was evenly spread to less than 50 pm in thickness by rolling a Meyer rod over the surface of the Mylar backing film.

Still, other results clearly show that the attractive force starts with a discontinuity in the force curve (33, 126, 127). One such example, obtained with the AFM colloidal-probe technique using silica/glass surfaces reacted with fluorinated silanes, is illustrated in Figure 20.13.

Two other significant conclusions can be made from this study i) the observed reaction between SiH4 and UF5 was most likely surface catalyzed and ii) UF and HF show fundamentally different reactivity towards partially fluorinated silane derivatives. Evidence for the first conclusion was obtained from reactions involving either SiH4 or UFg and reactor walls preconditioned with UF5 or SiH4, respectively, which proceeded in a very similar fashion to the bulk reactions between the two species. The latter reactions proceeded at or below ambient temperature whether the two species were mixed directly in the gas phase or first condensed together at -196 before warming up to ambient temperature, which supports the apparently active role of the reactor walls in the system s chemistry.
