Fluidization technique

The use of the fluidization technique requires in almost all cases the employment of a fluidized-bed system rather than an isolated piece of equipment. Figure 17-7 illustrates the arrangement of components of a system.

The investigations up to now suggest that this fluidizing technique allows the formation of a stable fluid bed with a minimum of coagulations, independent of the size of the feed, which, of course, causes a significant viscosity change inside the bed. In addition, this construction allows the use of the inclined bottom of the reactor as a settling zone for the metal pieces.

Microwave drying was combined with spouted bed fluidization technique (MWSB) for the drying of frozen blueberries [42]. MWSB drying was characterized by a substantial reduction in drying time and an improved product quality compared to freeze-, tray-, and SB-dried samples.
