Jet Flood. Flooding generally occurs by jet flood or downcomer backup. Reference 15 gives Equations 1, 2, and 3 for Jet flood, using Ballast trays. 

High liquid levels in the bottom of the stripper will also reduce stripping efficiency. A liquid level above the steam inlet will cause the stripping trays to flood. Flooding vastly decreases tray efficiency, and hence stripping efficiency.

Flooding—Flooding has long been used for weed control in rice, water covers the entire weed, killing it by suffocation. 

Floodplain—The flat, low-lying area adjacent to a river or stream that becomes covered with water during flooding flood waters deposit sand, silt and clay on this surface. 

The effect of gas has been considered by Takriff and various colleagues. With countercurrent flow of liquid and gas the column can flood. Flooding occurs at a constant liquid flow rate when the gas flow rate is increased to the point where all the liquid entering the top of the column cannot flow down the column counter to the upward flow of gas through the stage divider openings. The column is flooded when the excess liquid entering the column must flow out the top of the column with the gas. 

Permanently flooded—flooded throughout the year in all years... 

Semipermanently flooded—flooded during growing season in most years... 

Seasonally flooded—flooded for extended periods during growing season, but usually no surface water by the end of growing season... 

Temporarily flooded—flooded for brief periods during the growing season, but water table during most of the period below the soil surface... 

In evaluating natural water quality deterioration we suffer from the lack of a clear baseline. There are few pristine environments that can be used as a reference. For example, hikers must contend with Giardia lamblia in even the most remote places. How long this has been the case is unknown, but there is little reason to believe that the organism has not been historically resident in the wild animal population. Suspended solids in streams are a natural result of erosion caused by floods. Beaches are formed by sand carried downstream in floods. Flood control practices have both decreased erosion and flooding and trapped solids in reservoirs, and sand losses from beaches becomes a problem in places such as southern California.

Higher amount of additives or longer chained additives eould wet the polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in the electrodes and cause flooding. Flooding of the porous electrode has not been observed at 0.5 wt% of PFSI but has been observed at higher concentrations [42].

As I ve described in my book. Troubleshooting Process Plant Control, any time the steam inlet control valve becomes fully open, the deaerator temperature, pressure, and water level will become unstable and the deaerator stripping section will flood. Flood in the sense that boiling water may erupt from the atmospheric vent.
