In LT motors, a standard test finger as shown in Figure 11.7 is used, connected by an incandescent lamp to one pole of a supply of at least 40 V, the other pole of the supply being connected to the parts intended to be live in normal service. All parts must be connected electrically. The lamp should not glow when an attempt is made to touch the bare live parts or insufficiently insulated parts. Insufficiently insulated parts may be covered with a metal foil connected to tho.se parts that are live in normal service. Conducting parts covered with varnish or enamel only or protected by oxidation or by a similar process may be considered as insufficiently insulated. In HT motors, the clearance is verified with the minimum clearance required to withstand the dielectric test as in Section 11.4.8,... [Pg.264]

A large man wearing a Secret Service-style radio earpiece and dressed in a black suit with a hundred-dollar haircut is standing dead center in front of the entrance with his finger pointing at you. The man is at least six feet five, 250 pounds, with a neck twice the thickness of yours, and a nose that has been broken more times than you care to imagine. He seems one part football player and one part weight lifter. No one enters the White House, he says. [Pg.67]

The individual control fingers are attached mechanically and locked to the various spider assemblies. This allows for simplifications in manufacture, shipping, and assembly of the control element assembly. Because all fingers are removable and replaceable, servicing and disposal problems arc decreased, It is intended that the spider assembly and its extension shaft be reused whenever possible. [Pg.1109]

Because of this, you will want to keep your finger on the pulse of your organization s on-time pick-up and delivery performance. In particular, you will want to be kept informed of any critical or high-profile service failure incidents — not from an operations perspective, but rather to see if a particular run is too tight, and therefore a safety concern. Remember,... [Pg.742]

The i-year prevalence of dermatologic hand problems in 1656 home-help-service employees (93% women) was hand eczema, 22.4% dry skin, 64.5% itchy skin, 30.7% erythema and skin irritation, 33.7% papules, 13.4% small blisters between fingers, 9.2% fissures on knuckles, 21.3% fissures in palms, 8.1% fissures around nails or on fingertips, 36.5% swollen, red nail bands, 16.7% flaking nails, 41.0%. Activities associated with most skin problems were personal-hygiene service, washing of clothes and linen and home and window cleaning these caused erythema, itch, dryness and eczema of the skin. Food service was associated with skin dryness and wound... [Pg.978]

Employees who are to use computer peripherals need to be trained on proper use and handling. This instruction should include how to properly attach cables, operate the equipment, and service it. Employees should be warned against overtightening screws. No screw attaching a cable to the back of a computer should be more than lightly finger tight. Half of all peripheral downtime can be attributed to overenthusiasm with a screwdriver. [Pg.143]

At the other extreme, operators must resist urges for impulsive action when faced with a problem. The immediate cause of the Piper Alpha accident was precipitate, impulsive action to restore to service a pump that was under maintenance. Similarly, the Mumbai High accident occurred because of ill-considered action to help a crew member on the MSV Samundra Suraksha who had cnt his fingers. Gronp think can also sometimes lead to bad, impulsive decision-making, snch as the Equilon Anacortes accident. Also, the Chernobyl accident was partly attribntable to operators who impulsively sought to bend the rules in order to complete a test. (A further, personal example of an ill-considered msh to action is desalbed in Appendix 1.)... [Pg.301]

The software policy should include standard packages for the company in specific areas of application. The selection of software should conform to the key criteria of user requirements, systans requirements, supplier profile and software support. The earlier examples of applications software were relatively inflexible and the approach was systematize the customer rather than customize the systan . Many disillusioned customers attempted to build their own software and burnt their fingers in the process. In the present climate the software tools have become flexible, the IT is advancing rapidly, competitive expert support is provided by specialist software houses and thus it is prudent to buy appropriate software rather than to develop your own (see Eigure 17.9). The software should conform to open systems requirements and the supplier should be both reputable and locally available for support. The company should also build up its own IT support staff, especially a user support service. [Pg.304]
