One Last Word of Warning Be aware that different software or even up-grades of the same software can be a source of unexpected difficulty. 

A Word of Encouragement It is important to remember that DSC remains one of the easiest techniques to use. It is possible to perform numerous types of experiments with the minimum of difficulty. It is important not to get bogged down by complications that can occur - let the complications overtake you as and when they may - don t start with them  

Accounts of DTA and DSC can be found in the recently published Volume 1 of Handbook of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry and in Differential Scanning Calorimetry, An Introduction for Practitioners. Both texts provide a valuable source of references to original literature. An older text is the book by Wendlandt which like the Handbook is not restricted to DTA and DSC but nevertheless contains an enormous amount of information. Other texts are available which deal with specific areas of application food, materials,petroleum analysis,pharmaceuticals and polymers.
