Condensate systems can be chemically treated to reduce metal corrosion. Treatment chemicals include neutralising amines, filming amines, and oxygen scavenger-metal passivators. 

In boilers in which tannin blends are employed both as oxygen scavengers and as sludge dispersants, the magnetite film may also incorporate iron tannates. 

Tannin chemistry is complex and tannin blends (composed of singletree species tannins mixed together) offer a number of useful water treatment functions. Apart from oxygen-scavenging abilities, they act as passivating agents, film-formers, sequestrants, and polymeric sludge dispersants (for more details, see Section 10.3).

Lead is immune to distilled water free from C02 and oxygen. Air free from C02 in distilled water corrodes lead. In presence of C02 a film of basic lead carbonate in formed, which prevents further attack. The successful use of lead pipe coils for steam boiler applications depends on the use of pure water condensate, which is free from oxygen and carbon dioxide. In the event of the presence of oxygen, oxygen scavengers such as hydrazine or sodium sulfite together with cobalt nitrate may be used. 

The other commercial stabilizer (UV-3), a hindered-amine type, is presumed to afford photochemical protection by functioning primarily as a free radical and/or oxygen scavenger (13). Thus protection should only occur in the primary substrate, the cellulose acetate film, and not in a secondary substrate such as the blue wool fabric. The results shown in Table II verified this assumption the AE values obtained, irrespective of the concentration of UV-3 used in the film, were within experimental error of those observed with the unprotected fabric. 

In steam condensers, such as may be found on power stations, the reduced pressure may induce air ingress into the condenser. The oxygen present in the air may represent a corrosion agent. Filming amines may be necessary to control corrosion under these circumstances. Alternatively hydrazine or another volatile oxygen scavenger may be used for oxygen and pH control. 

In addition to modeling polypropylene formation, scientists at BP Amoco Chemicals have successfully used computations to model desulfurization of light naphtha, flue gas multicomponent equilibria, methane-to-methanol conversion, and oxygen scavenging films. 

Active food packaging is a film or coating that is directly or indirectly in contact with any food surfaces to increase the shelf life or improve the quality of the packaged food. The big classifications fall under either oxygen-scavenging or antimicrobial but other upcoming types such as ethylene-scavenging, moisture absorbers, taint removers, and color and flavor enhancers have also been identified. 

The most obvious benefit of using an oxygen scavenging film versus a sachet is that it does not appear as a foreign object. Moreover, the polymer-based film, unlike the metal-based scavenger, is also completely independent of moisture and has no effect on metal detection systems.
