Medium-density polyethylene films

Haider and Karlsson [15] developed a simple procedure for the determination of aromatic antioxidants and ultraviolet stabilizers in polyethylene using ultrasonic extraction. Chloroform was used for the isolation of Chi-massorb 944 from 150-pm-thick commerical low-density polyethylene and Irganox 1010 and Irgafos 168 from 25-pm medium-density polyethylene film. The recovery of the additives increased remarkably at higher temperatures and longer extraction times. At 60°C, quantitative recovery was achieved in 15, 45, and 60 minutes for Irgafos 168, Irganox 1010, and Chi-massorb 944, respectively. 

Two examples of the use of localised thermal analysis are provided in order to illustrate the generic applications of this approach. Figure 8 shows localised thermomechanical analysis of the surface of the multi-layer film in Figure 4. Measurements were made at points within this image describing the bulk polymer, the central gas-barrier layer and the thin tie-layer between this and the bulk film. The melting transition temperatures are consistent with high density polyethylene, poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) and medium density polyethylene for the bulk, gas barrier and tie layers, respectively [101],...

E-plastomers, particularly the high- and medium-density materials, have found extensive use in films [17]. They are valued for their excellent seal character which allows the formation of mechanically strong seals at relatively low temperatures compared to traditional low-density polyethylene (LDPE). In addition, these E-plastomers can be obtained in a range of crystallinities and softness. These higher-density materials are typically made in the blown-film process and are used for protective film covers and disposable bags.

Products SCLAIRTECH process can produce PE products with density range of 0.905-0.965 kg/m3, melt index (Ml) from 0.2 to in excess of 150, and narrow to broad molecular weight distribution (MWD). This allows producers to participate in the majority of the polyethylene market segments including among low-, medium- and high-density films, rotational, injection and blow molding applications.
