Film-forming resin

Trimethylsiloxysilicate is a film-forming resin that is used to keep hand lotions and sunscreens from washing off. [Pg.222]

Some primers will improve the durability of the joint by protecting the substrate surface area from hydration and corrosion. These primers suppress the formation of weak boundary layers that could develop during exposure to wet environments. Primers that contain film-forming resins are sometimes considered interfacial water barriers. They keep water out of the joint interface area and prevent corrosion of the metal surfaces. By establishing a strong, moisture-resistant bond, the primer protects the adhesive-adherend interface and lengthens the service life of the bonded joint. [Pg.329]

These membranes are used for the ultrafiltration of biological liquids (blood and urine), for hemodialysis in an artificial kidneys and for hemooxygenation in an artifidal lung The extraordinarily hi water permeability allows us to use the polyionic complexes as the additives to usual film-forming resins for preparing materials with a high coefficient of permeability to water vapor ... [Pg.140]

Properties Liquid. Solidification point 71-74C. Formaldehyde condensation products are permanently thermoplastic and water soluble. As increasing amounts of simple urea are mixed with ethanolurea, the condensation products gradually change from pliable film-forming resins into the brittle types. Thus, almost any degree of water solubility and flexibility may be obtained in the final resin. The modified resins formed with ethanolurea are compatible with polyvinyl alcohol, methyl cellulose, cooked starch, and other water-dispersible materials. [Pg.514]

Carboset . [BFGoodrich/Spec. Polymers] Aciyic resin sol ns. thetmoplas-tic and thermoset film-forming resin used in protective metal coatings, paints, ceramics, adhesives, textiles, paper, leather, cosmetics, floor polishes, chemical specialties. [Pg.63]

Copolymer 845, 937,958. aSF] PVP/ dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer film-forming resin, conditioner for hair and skin care prods. [Pg.84]

In preferred embodiments of the composition of the invention carbonaceous materials and/or film forming resin adhesives are employed. These materials can add desirable properties with respect to shake-out and storage life. The employment of these optional, but preferred, materials is described in greater detail in the following paragraphs. [Pg.203]

In the event it is desirable to make cores and store them for extended periods of time prior to use, I have discovered that the addition of a film-forming resin adhesive in the form of a water solution or water dispersion, drastically extends the storage life of foundry sand-cores made with the binder of the invention. Thus the use of these materials enable the formed cores to retain sufficient strength and hardness during storage. [Pg.209]

Useful film-forming resin adhesives include polyvinyl esters and ethers and their copolymers and interpolymers with ethylene and vinyl monomers, acrylic resins and their copolymers, polyvinyl alcohol, water dispersion of polyolefin resins, polystyrene copolymers such as polystyrene butadiene, polyamide resins, natural rubber dispersions, and natural and modified carbohydrates (starch or carboxycellulose). Particularly preferred for use are aqueous dispersions of polyvinyl acetate and vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers. [Pg.209]

To obtain optimum adhesion, the film forming resin dispersion or solution should be added such that it does not gel or coagulate either the silica or the sodium silicate before adding them to the sand. For instance, the polymer resin dispersions can be mixed with the silica before adding to the sand because both are compatible and do not gel when mixed together. The mixtures can be added to sand and they will form an adhesive film on the surface of the sand grains. After the silica and the polymer resin dispersion have been mixed with the sand, the sodium silicate solution can be added to the sand and although it will thicken in contact with the silica and the polymer resin dispersion, it will do so in situ, that is. [Pg.210]

When the film forming resin or pitch are incorporated into the core composition, if the components are added separately to the sand, the resin should be added to the sand before the sUicate. The resin can be added to the sand before or after the colloidal silica. The order in which the pitch is added is not critical with respect to either the sdica or the silicate. [Pg.212]
