Fillings color-tinted

Colorants and opacifiers are typically used at low concentrations in the wet gel formulation. A wide range of colorants such as FD C and D C water-soluble dyes, certified lakes, pigments, and vegetable colors have been incorporated into Softgel shells alone or in combination to produce the desired color, tint, or hue for product identification. A general rule in color selection is that the color of the capsule shell should be similar to or darker than the fill material to reduce the contrast with the seams. [Pg.421]

The chemist John Dalton (of atomic theory fame) was color-blind. He thought it probable that the vitreous humor of his eyes (the fluid that fills the eyeball behind the lens) was tinted blue, unlike the colorless fluid of normal eyes. He proposed that after his death, his eyes should be dissected and the color of the vitreous humor determined. His wish was honored. The day after Dalton s death in July 1844, Joseph Ransome dissected his eyes and found the vitreous humor to be perfectly colorless. Ransome, like many scientists, was reluctant to throw samples away. He placed Dalton s eyes in ajar of preservative (Fig. 1), where they stayed for a century and a half. [Pg.461]

This is based on a cake my mom ofien made. It came from Maida Heatter s Book of Great Chocolate Desserts, except that Mom could never stick to the recipe. The sour cream tempers the cake s sweetness, and the cake itself is so moist that it almost resembles a pound cake in texture. I fill it with Vanilla Whipped Cream tinted in a bright color or Red Currant Curd, and cover it with Sweet Chocolate Ganache. It s the perfect cake for beginners—my husband found my recipe journal and baked this cake for my birthday ... [Pg.31]

TO MAKE THE CAKE AS PICTURED ON PAGE 30, bake two batches of cake in 8- and 6-inch pans. It s best to use two of each size for two layers. Extra batter from the 6-inch cake can be used to fill a small tray filled with cupcake liners. Prepare the Love Blossom flowers a few days before (page 226) and the Vanilla Whipped Buttercream (page 84), tinted pale lemon yellow. Use at least three different colors for the flowers, in pink tones—or as I do for baby boy showers, shades of pale blue. Fill, frost, and chill the cakes, then follow the directions to tier the layers on page 242-... [Pg.34]

While the cake is chilling, fill two small bowls with about V4 cup frosting each. Dip a toothpick in the deep pink food color, and add one drop to one of the small bowls. Mix with a spoon until the frosting is hot pink. Tint the orange frosting the same way. [Pg.79]

To make the eggs, tint 1/4 cup gumpaste a desired color and roll it into egg shapes, with one end slightly tapered. Fill a small bowl with either lemon juice or a clear alcohol such as vodka, and add a pinch of metallic gold dust. Dip die brush in the mixture. Pull the brisdes of the brush back and then release them, so that the metallic liquid splatters the egg. Let the eggs dry. Place in the bird s nest. [Pg.227]

Fill a 100-mL graduated cylinder exactly to the 50.0-mL mark with water that has been tinted with food coloring. Use a dropper to adjust the volume. Insert a thermometer and read the temperature of the water. Remove the thermometer. [Pg.21]

Although the difference between toners and tinted sealers may not be clearly defined, it is usually the role of the tinted sealer to provide both color and sealing properties. Therefore the tinted sealer usually is higher in solids and provides the majority of color to the finish. There has been a resurgence of popularity of tinted sealers, owing to the appeal of blonde or natural finishes. The fact that tinted sealers are becoming more popular may be the result in part of their ability to fill the roles of both stain and film builder within a finishing system. [Pg.338]

This may be a function of the higher levels of shear stress available to the twin screw operator though control of fill volume and throughput rates. Interestingly, superior pigment dispersion did not translate into significant increases in relative color strength values in film or in tint tests for MB-Yellow 1. [Pg.138]
