Fig. 2. Schematic diagram of the three pairs of polypeptide chains of fibrinogen. The Aa, B/3, and 7 chains are represented by bars with lengths proportional to the number of amino acid residues in each chain and the N- and C-terminal ends of the chains are labeled. The coiled-coil regions are indicated by the diagonally striped boxes, while the intra- and interchain disulfide bonds are indicated by solid lines. Carbohydrate attachment sites are labeled with CHO, while thrombin and major plasmin cleavage sites are indicated by T and P, respectively. (Adapted from Fig. 12-1 of Hantgan et al., 2000.)... For thin rods of length /, it can be shown that L = 112 [27]. Estimate K for fibrinogen, which can be approximated as a thin rod of length 700 A, partitioning into a porous solid with s = 0.012/A. What does K change to if all pore dimensions are exactly doubled in size Assume the applicability of the random-plane model of pore space. [Pg.36]

The interaction of heparin with human plasma low-density lipoprotein has been studied by gel permeation chromatography A fraction containing degradation products of fibrinogen formed in blood plasma after injection of thrombin also contains a complex of fibrinogen and heparin. The rate of inactivation of thrombin and Factor by anti-thrombin has been shown to be directly proportional to the chain-length of heparin. The effects of heparin on the reactions catalysed by Factor have been examined.Heparin inhibits the ability of phospholipid to accelerate prothrombin activation in a mechanism which appears to involve the displacement of Factor X from the surface of the phospholipid. [Pg.356]

Proteins with helix structures (a structures) can be drawn or stretched to about double their length and possess unusually high elasticity. Wool keratin, myosin (a muscle protein), fibrinogen, and collagen are in this group. [Pg.548]

We model the blood flowing in capillary vessel of diameter 10-13 p.m and about 100 p.m length. We assume that the system modeled consists of a fragment of capillary and blood components such as plasma, RBC, and fibrinogen. As shown in Figure 26.32 and Figure 26.33, all of them can be constmcted of discrete-particles. We defined two types of particles ... [Pg.765]
