Ventricular Fibrillation Predictions. The threshold of ventricular fibrillation is not adequately known nor easily determined since experimentation on humans is not realistic however, approximations have been developed. Researchers have approached this problem by performing shock experiments on animals. The statistical data obtained from these experiments have been fitted to equations for predicting minimum threshold values of fibrillation. Because all of the ventricular-fibrillation predictions are based on tests performed on animals, the threshold equations are open for criticism. However, in an attempt to approach the problem in a realistic sense and because of the lack of opposing scientific data, the fibrillation equations have been widely accepted. Some of the popular predictions will be discussed. [Pg.418]

Jacimovic s Prediction Dalziel s work is the most widely accepted research in the area of electric shock however, other researchers also defined minimum fibrillation thresholds for 60-Hz currents. Jacimovic (1982) performed a series of measurements on animals and estabUshed the following fibrillation prediction ... [Pg.419]

In view of the consideration that /(-solenoids and /(-arcades may also be structural elements of amyloid fibrils (Kajava et al., 2004 Lazo and Downing, 1998 Margittai and Langen, 2004 Pickersgill, 2003), sequence-based detection and structure prediction of /(-solenoid proteins are pertinent to the identification of amyloidogenic sequences and the elucidation of amyloid fibril structures. As with /(-solenoid domains, amyloidogenic regions of... [Pg.84]

Hybrid motifs are apparendy unique to fibrillins and LTBPs. They contain primary structural features of both TB motifs towards their N-termini and cbEGF-like domains towards their C-termini. No high-resolution structures have yet been determined for these motifs. Most hybrid motifs contain eight cysteines, but the first hybrid motif of fibril-lin-1 contains nine cysteines one of these cysteines is predicted to be important in forming intermolecular disulphide bonds that stabilize assembled fibrillin-1 (see Section III below Reinhardt et al, 2000b). [Pg.410]
