Fell, Honor

Initially, Cortez defeated the Tlascalans, and then formed an alliance with them to defeat the Aztecs, their enemies. Because of an Aztec prophecy about the return of Quetzacoatl, a legendary god-king who was light skinned and bearded, Cortez was believed to be a god and was received by the Aztecs with honor. Later, this warm welcome turned to mistrust and hatred when the Spaniards mistreated the Aztec people. Eventually, the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, fell to the Spaniards. Cortez had Tenochtitlan razed and built Mexico City on its ruins. 

I think the strongest claim is that of Dr Marjory Stephenson who was the first person in the world to do work on bacterial metabolism as exact as that on mammalian metabolism, and who has continued to do good work in this field, discovering, for example, a number of new enzymes, in particular those dealing with the production and consumption of hydrogen. Another possibility is Honor B. Fell whose work on tissue culture has certainly been pretty good, but I do not think her claim is as strong as that of Stephenson.97...

BEYOND THE LABORATORY a deathly hush fell. Harford went away to assemble a team of laborers, the hired girls disappeared into the village, and Mrs. Gill and her new familiar, Annie, retreated to her cottage to prepare for the annual fair held at the end of June in honor of bookish St. Edelburga. As for Sarah, at first I had no idea what had happened to her except that she certainly never came near me. 

I entered Emory University in the fell of 1937 to major in English Literature. Dean Rece lectured to the newly arrived freshman class, laying down the rules of Emory and of its honor system, telling us we were to sit in our assigned numbered seat in the Glenn Memorial Chapel every Friday with attendance kept by observers in the balcony, and that we had to understand and follow the important announcements that Emory officers would make. 

The first CT system was shown to be approximately 100 times more sensitive than the conventional X-ray system (837). Contrast enhancement in CT is measured in terms of a density unit. In the original article, water was arbitrarily set at a value of 0 unit air, 500 unit fat, 50 unit, and so forth. On this scale, a number of tissues in the body fell within 20 units above water or "4% window" in scanning. This unit was later named the Hounsfield Unit (HU) in honor of the author (840). Using HUs, air has a value of -1000, water a value of 0, and dense bone a value of +1000. The white tone on the picture represents dense material with enhanced contrast. Materials such as tumor will be less enhanced by the contrast medium because of limited blood supply and will appear hypodense, gray, or less white. Organs or tissues not contrast enhanced will appear black on the picture. I go to a party honoring a good friend who has recently been promoted to an important position. He is Black. His wife is white. I know these two people well and, as with my own marital history, I know they fell in love with each other as individuals. I even know them well enough to think I can begin to imagine the specifics of spirit and personal history that drew them to one another. I do not doubt the complete authenticity, the humanity beyond race, of their attachment as I never doubted that same authenticity...
