Feed points

At high hquid flow, the hydrauHc gradient may become so large that the caps near the Hquid feed point will stop bubbling, and the efficiency will... [Pg.44]

Zone 2. The primary function of this zone is to remove B from the pores of the soHd. When the soHd arrives at the fresh feed point, the pores contain the... [Pg.295]

Another approach is the simulated moving-bed system, which has large-volume appHcations in normal-paraffin separation andpara- s.yXen.e separation. Since its introduction in 1970, the simulated moving-bed system has largely displaced crystallisation ia xylene separations. The unique feature of the system is that, although the bed is fixed, the feed point shifts to simulate a moving bed (see Adsorption, liquid separation). [Pg.86]

Dense phase systems are at cost disadvantage when multiple feed points are required, or when incremental compressed air for conveying is not available from existing sources. In the latter instance, the entire investment cost of an air compressor and associated auxiUaries must be allocated to the cost of the conveying system. [Pg.163]

It is also possible to have a combined wave, which has both gradual and abrupt parts. The general rule for an isothermal, trace system is that in passing from the initial condition to the feed point in the isotherm plane, the slope of the path must not decrease, if it does, then a shock chord is taken for that part of the path. Referring to Fig. 16-19, for a transition from (0,0) to (1,1), the dashes indicate shock parts, which are connected by a simple wave part between points Pi and Pg. [Pg.1523]

To increase the wiping action, the rolls are usually operated at different speeds. The material passing between the rolls is returned to the feed point by the rotation of the rolls. If the rolls are at different temperatures, the material usually will stick to the hotter roll and return to the feed point as a thick layer. [Pg.1646]

Because of the steep pitch required, slides are limited in application. They are most commonly used to bridge the gap between roller-conveyor systems on two floors, because the roller conveyor can take the container off the slide rapidly and ehminate or reduce the chance for collisions. Slides may also be used when containers can be chuted from an upper floor to a manually loaded carrier. The use of several rollers at the feed point is recommended for easy dehveiy to the sloping section. If the drop is short and containers light, a roller cleanout will prevent backup of containers on the slide. The slope of gravity slides is a function of container weight, size, and friction characteristics and should be selected with care to be sure that containers do not move either too swiftly or not at all. Slides usually use flat steel sheet. [Pg.1976]

Coal is fed as a paste containing 25 wt % water, and sorbent is fed diy by a lock-hopper system with pneumatic conveying. The top size of each feedstock is 3 mm in). The latent heat lost evaporating the water fed with the paste is compensated by increased gas turbine power output resulting from the increased flue-gas mass flow rate. For the 80-MWe unit, there are six coal feed points (one per 4.5 m" [48 ft"]) and four sorbent feed points (one per 6.7 m" [72 ft"]), all entering beneath the tube bank along one wall. The bed depth is... [Pg.2400]

For such sub-distributions there are further drops up to the feeding point... [Pg.544]

Identify mislocated feed points where the feed, for binary mixtures, is not where the q-line intersects the equilibrium curve. This is not necessarily the case for multicomponent feed, however. [Pg.54]

For columns in which there is a substantial flash of the feed liquid, or in which the feed is a vapor of a different composition than the internal vapor, a collector plate can be installed above the feed point. The purpose of this plate is to provide mixing of the vapor phase in the gas risers so that a more uniform vapor composition enters the rectifying section of the column. [Pg.83]

Added a feed distributor (omitted originally) to allow the proper lower feed point to be used for one feed stream. [Pg.309]

In applications in which solids need to be fed to the bed continuously, the smaller distributor surface area, cylindrical geometry and rotation of the CFB should lead to fewer solids feed points per unit of capacity than are needed in a conventional bed ... [Pg.485]
