Federal structure

In most industrial countries and those at the threshold of industrialization, the field of explosion protection for electrical apparatus and systems is subject to legislation. The usual procedure, that a manufacturer declares the conformity of a product with a given standard under his own responsibility, is altered in such a way that an administrative body nominated by the government of a state, or, in states with a federal structure, nominated by the authority of a land, issues an approval which declares the compliance with a standard and with legislative acts in parallel. On this basis, the apparatus may be commissioned and put into service. [Pg.51]

The United States is unique among the major countries in that supply and demand has determined price structures in the petroleum industry. Today, even though the products are much better than fifty years ago, the before-tax retail prices of gasolines, diesel fuels, and heating oils are much less on a constant-value dollar basis than they ever have been before. Even with the federal and state taxes included, the retail prices on a constant-value dollar basis... [Pg.986]

The planning and construction of generation and transmission facilities by utilities came to a virtual halt. With no guaranteed market, no control over the use of their transmission networks, no assurance of stranded investment recovery, and no assurance of federal remedial treatment, the economic structure of utility planning and construction of generation facilities basically stopped in place. [Pg.1202]

Buildings, Monuments and Materials. Many materials used in man-made structures are subject to deterioration from normal weathering such as dissolution, mechanical fracture, erosion, and photochemical reactions. However, as shown by Amoroso and Fassina (43 the rates of deterioration have increased drastically since the advent of industrial pollution. Losses to Canadian heritage sites such as the federal parliament buildings has been significant and have been described by Weaver (44). [Pg.57]

We are also, both at state and Federal levels, dismantling the legal and regulatory structures that have maintained the monopoly power of yesterday s electricity sector. Twenty four states have already implemented some form of deregulation Industry and the states are taking the lead and moving forward, as they should. But federal legislation is still critical. [Pg.53]
