According to Read, the name han-fang-chi is applied in China and Japan to Menispermum dauricum (p. 350), Sinomenium aeutum (p. 268) or Siephania japonica (p. 361), while fang-chi is a native name for S. ietrandra in Formosa. [Pg.351]

Of the alkaloids of the han-fang-chi group of drugs (p. 350), Ohta states that kukoline is a strong reflex and spasm stimulant and finally causes paralysis and death. Raymond-Hamet states that it suppresses the hypotensive action of dihydroxyphenylethanolethylamine. [Pg.362]

TCM is based on natural products, primarily (>80%) plants. In China, many medicinal plants are used as folk dmgs (Min Chien Yao) however, TCM also holds a predominant and respected position in medicine and single or, more commonly, multiple formulated herbs are prescribed by TCM doctors as Chinese Materia Medica or traditional dmgs (Chung Yao) (I).
