Acetic anhydride penetrates the skin quickly and painfully forming bums and bUsters that are slow to heal. Anhydride is especially dangerous to the deUcate tissues of the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. The odor threshold is 0.49 mg/m, but the eyes are affected by as Httie as 0.36 mg/m and electroencephalogram patterns are altered by only 0.18 mg/m. When handling acetic anhydride, mbber gloves that are free of pinholes are recommended for the hands, as well as plastic goggles for the eyes, and face-masks to cover the face and ears. 

Experimentation with test animals and laboratory and plant experience indicate that the fluorophosphoric acids are less toxic and dangerous than hydrogen fluoride (58). However, they contain, or can hydrolyze to, hydrofluoric acid and must be treated with the same care as hydrofluoric acid. Rubber gloves and face shields are essential for all work with these acids, and full mbber dress is necessary for handling larger quantities. The fumes from these acids contain HF. 

This type of double seal (with back to back faces) is pressurized above the pressure inside the seal chamber (Figure 13-20). It is recommended for toxic, explosive, costly, dangerous, and volatile liquids. It is important to maintain the seal pressure above the pumped pressure inside the seal chamber. 

Heat stroke A serious acute condition caused by the elevation of the body temperature above the danger level. Symptoms can include redness of the face, reduced sweating, erratic behavior, confusion, dizziness, collapse, or unconsciousness. 

A principle of application relative to internals is to obtain as many 180° or (second preference) 90° turns of the gas flow after it enters the drum as reasonably possible. Plat plate pieces, baffles, etc., welded to the side or nozzles are not recommended, because the vibration forces tend to fatigue and crack the welds. Baffle plates have been known to break loose on one face and ratde around in the drum. This can be potentially dangerous. The vessel itself should be designed for rugged service. 

The above example is simply one of the safety problems that must be faced with the completion of wells drilled with air (or gas) and making formation gas. The principle behind the above procedure is to eliminate or limit the exposure of the rig floor to the dangerous, potentially explosive formation gas. 

If collar-pull elevators are used, the bearing surface should be carefully inspected for (1) uneven wear, which may produce a side lift on the coupling with danger of Jumping it off, and (2) uniform distribution of the load where applied over the bearing face of the coupling. 

It is apparent that these results are essentially identical to the results obtained from this data using PCR. We even do extremely well with the overrange validation samples in A4. But, it would be dangerous to assume that we can routinely get away with extrapolation of this kind. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn t. There is no simple rule that can tell us which situation we might be facing. It is very dependent on the particular data and... 

One of principal problems in larger urban centers is the presence of particulate material in the atmosphere due to the emission of diesel engine[l]. One of the most dangerous components of diesel exhaust is particulate, which consists of agglomerates of small carbon particles with a number of different hydrocarbons and sulfates adsorbed on their surfece. A potential way to face the related enviromnental problem is that of filtering the particulate and burning it out in catalyzed traps before any emission of diesel exhausts in the environment.
