Extrusion Extruders are machines which force rubber through a nozzle or die to a profiled strip of material. Extruders are of two basic types screw extruders and ram extruders. A screw extruder comprises a feed hopper, a feed screw operating within a barrel, and a die. 

For the extrusion process two different types of extruders are generally used Ram (or piston) extruders, and screw extruders. 

Many of the components of a tire, such as tread, sidewall, and apex, are formed by extrusion of the uncured or green rubber. Extruders in a tire manufacturing operation are conventional screw-type systems that fall into two categories ... 

An extruder. Fig. 17, has essentially the same structural components as the plasti-fication unit in a screw-type injection molding machine. Fig. 11. The screw in this case is not an axial plunger in the extruder it only rotates. The significance of extrusion per se is the continuity of the process. The method is used to produce plates, tubing, profiles, films, etc. 

The theory developed in Chapter 7 is applied to the design of extruder screws in Chapter 8 and to the design of extruder dies in Chapter 9. Chapter 10 is devoted to twin screw extruders. Twin screw extruders have become an increasingly important branch of the extrusion industry. It is felt, therefore, that any book on extrusion cannot ignore this type of extruder. Troubleshooting extruders is covered in Chapter 11. 

Another factor to consider when considering extrusion research is the type of extruder used. Extruders are costly. Many universities that conduct extrusion research have small laboratory-scale extruders single screw machines are most common. The food industry, on the other hand, uses primarily large twin screw extruders. Can we really apply... 

Twin screw type extrusion molding machine are used for blending of Sumiploy K series. Extruder with screw of L/D ratio of more than 30 is recommended (L - screw length, D- Screw diameter). Sumiploy K series are supplied in form of pellets. 

There is also the siloxane process, which simply mixes the various additives (silane chemicals, cross-linking agents, antioxidants, catalyst, colorants, etc.) along with the polyethylene base resin using a high-intensity mixer prior to feeding the mixture into the pipe extruder. The siloxane process requires a special type of extrusion screw.
