Exploratory writing

Chapter 11 looks at the uses of learning journals and other exploratory writing. This type of writing helps you to take a more personal approach to your learning and can help to deepen your understanding of course ideas.

One important kind of exploratory writing that you may be asked to do is the learning journal. Learning journals are more elaborate than most exploratory writing and are sometimes formally assessed, which may alter how you approach them. We look at this possibility at the end of the chapter, but otherwise we focus on the learning journal as a non-graded, exploratory kind of writing. 

USING LEARNING JOURNALS AND OTHER EXPLORATORY WRITING... 

Exploratory writing gives you the space for personal reflections on your academic courses. 

For some routine or exploratory work, it is expedient to adopt a simplified experimental procedure, which involves the determination of a single point on the isotherm -preferably within the BET range. The assumption is then made that C is sufficiently large to give an almost zero intercept. If we assume that the intercept is zero, and that C-1 C we may write ... 

At the time of writing, exploratory research of THC/CBD combinations in refractory breathlessness is getting underway, incorporating careful monitoring of respiratory function. 

Equation (14.9) is no more than a preliminary sketch at this stage. It contains two uncertainties firstly it is not certain that to form, for example, K the best combination to use is aK -l- bK. Secondly, and more fundamentally, the terms containing RT in eqns. (14.5) onward presuppose two populations of atoms that interdiffuse by jumping past each other. Then we have to ask how valid is it to write e, the strain rate of component A as if component A formed a continuum, as in continuum mechanics. Chapter 15 sheds some light on this question, but does not resolve it completely. The whole remainder of the book is on an exploratory or tentative basis. 

In the RDRC, if subjects of age less than 18 or more than 30 subjects are used, a special summary report must be submitted to the FDA. Also women of childbearing age must declare in writing the absence of pregnancy to participate in the RDRC study. Under exploratory IND, no such restriction exists expect that each case is individually evaluated.
