Regarding the role of intermediate states, we have focused on an additional charge transfer state which exhibits a non-negligible coupling to the exciton state and could therefore play a significant role in the exciton dissociation dynamics. Recent experimental studies provide strong indications that such an... [Pg.204]

We have adopted the excitonic band model not only because it describes conventional absorption spectroscopy (linear spectroscopy), but because it enables an extremely convenient description of nonlinear experiments, such as pump-probe, dynamical hole burning, or photon echoes. In these third-order experiments one has to consider not only transitions from the ground state to the one-excitonic states but also transitions from the one-excitonic to the two-excitonic states (see Fig. 13). These additional transitions reveal the required information to deduce, at least in principle, the complete coupling scheme. [Pg.321]

The excimer fluorescence (with respect to the excited vdW dimer emission) is red shifted and structureless because the emission is terminated in a repulsive ground-state potential energy surface (Figure 15). For parallel transition moments, emission from the out-of-phase exciton state to the ground state is forbidden and for the in-phase exciton state emission is allowed [28a]. It should be noted, however, that the forbidden emission from the out-of-phase exciton state is expected to have a similar transition dipole moment as the Lb So emission. The actual dynamics of the initially excited vdW dimer depend on the energy gap and the coupling strength between the primary excited (LE) state and the excimer state. [Pg.3095]

Dynamics. Cluster dynamics constitutes a rich held, which focused on nuclear dynamics on the time scale of nuclear motion—for example, dissociahon dynamics [181], transihon state spectroscopy [177, 181, 182], and vibrahonal energy redistribuhon [182]. Recent developments pertained to cluster electron dynamics [183], which involved electron-hole coherence of Wannier excitons and exciton wavepacket dynamics in semiconductor clusters and quantum dots [183], ultrafast electron-surface scattering in metallic clusters [184], and the dissipahon of plasmons into compression nuclear modes in metal clusters [185]. Another interesting facet of electron dynamics focused on nanoplasma formation and response in extremely highly ionized molecular clusters coupled to an... [Pg.270]

From this analysis it is clear that for complex systems composed of many coupled chromophores and embedded in a heterogeneous and dynamic environment, the intramolecular and intermolecular fluctuations play a major role in determining the composition and relative energies of the excitonic states. These differences can lead to important discrepancies in the final spectra. [Pg.236]
