Eutectics evaporation

Highway. Rock salt, solar salt, and in some cases in Europe, evaporated salt are used to maintain traffic safety and mobiUty during snow and ice conditions in snowbelt regions throughout the world. Sodium chloride melts ice at temperatures down to its eutectic point of —21.12°C. Most snowstorms occur when the temperature is near 0°C, where salt is very effective. More than 40% of dry salt produced in the United States is used for highway deicing. [Pg.186]

For economy of cost, and to reduce the viscosity (and so improve heat transfer), solutions weaker than eutectic are normally used, provided there is no risk of freezing at the evaporator. [Pg.149]

Complete recovery of dissolved solids is obtainable by evaporation, but only to the eutectic composition by chilling. [Pg.4]

Fig. 2 (a) Edwards E308 evaporator. One quartz-crystal thickness monitor is pointed towards the Au source to monitor Au vapor deposition on chamber walls the other monitors Au deposited through the shadow mask atop the organic layer. In the cold Au deposition, a small amount of Ar gas is added to the chamber to cool the Au atoms to room temperature before they physisorb atop the cryocooled organic monolayer, (b) Geometry of an Au I monolayer I Au pad sandwich, with electrical connections made using a Ga/In eutectic... [Pg.46]

Applying external fields (electric, thermal, eutectic solidification, crystallization, and solvent evaporation etc.) to induce long-range ordering in micro domains with desirable orientation. [Pg.200]

The testosterone-menthol eutectic mixture can be prepared by mixing 31.6 g of testosterone with 68.4 menthol, using sufficient methyl alcohol to dissolve both and allowing the alcohol to evaporate to dryness. [Pg.32]

Similar to Voltaren" Emulgel, oily droplets of an eutectic mixture of lidocaine and prilocaine are dispersed in a hydrogel to provide local anesthesia to the skin for injections and siugical treatment (Emla cream). A further possibility is the dermal administration of a liposome dispersion as a spray (Heparin PUR ratiopharm Spriih-gel "). After administration, water and isopropylic alcohol evaporate partially resulting in an increase of concentration and in a transition from the initial liposome dispersion into a lamellar liquid crystal [32]. The therapeutic effect appears to be influenced favorably by the presence of lecithins rather than by the degree of liposome dispersion. [Pg.140]

Figure 27. Schematic for solid-state electrical measurements with ultrathin polymer separators electrodeposited onto planar indium—tin oxide (ITO) or Au substrates. The top electrode makes a soft contact with the polymer by slow evaporation of Au or direct contact with a liquid metal (either Hg or Gain eutectic) using a micrometer-controlled syringe to control the approach to contact. Measurements are made in an argon-filled glovebox to minimize effects of O2 and H2O. Figure 27. The effects of evaporation or chilling on the amounts and compositions of the liquid and solid phases can be followed on the diagrams. Example 16.2 does this. Mixtures that form eutectics cannot be separated completely by chilling. The amount and nature of a separated solid phase depends on the temperature and the overall composition. Examples 16.2(c) and (d) make such calculations. Mixtures that are completely miscible in both liquid and solid phases, such as Figure 16.2(d), can be separated... [Pg.523]

The current surface of Mars is cold and dry (Fig. 5.13). Early oceans or lakes would have dried out either by evaporation or freezing. Solution C was allowed to dry by either (a) evaporation at 0°C (Fig. 5.14a) or (b) freezing to the eutectic (Fig. 5.14b). Both equilibrium-mode evaporation and freezing lead to six precipitated salts (Fig. 5.14) because the number of independent salt components is equal to the number of cations (4) + the number of anions... [Pg.129]

If Soln. E is allowed to dry by evaporation at 0°C (Fig. 5.14c) or freezing to the eutectic (Fig. 5.14d), then the distribution of precipitated salts is similar to Soln. C except for the large increase in MgSC>4 salts (cf. Figs. 5.14a,b with 5.14c,d). Exactly the same suite of salts precipitate for Solns. C and E. Also, the eutectic temperature is the same (—35.4°C). For Soln. E, the salt quantities fall in the order (MgNa)SC>4 > NaCl > (MgCa)CC>3, in agreement with estimates of salt distribution on the Martian surface (Clark and Van Hart 1981). [Pg.133]
