These corrections, whilst applicable to a variety of systems, were determined for use with cyclen derivatives. A more wide ranging correction for q values of europium complexes has been postulated by Supkowski and Horrocks (25), using data for 25 complexes taken from the literature. Their new equation is ... [Pg.367]

In 1962, it was pointed out that europium complexes dissolved in organic solvents or in a polymer matrix have optical properties that make them potential candidates for laser materials. At the same time. Whan and Crosby and Filipescu and coworkers have also suggested the potential application of rare-earth chelates in lasers. Lempicki and Samelson in 1963 were the first researchers to obtain stimulated emission at... [Pg.175]

The equilibrium constant for the complexation of cholesterol with Eu(fod)3 has been evaluated from measurements on a series of solutions at varying total concentrations but identical molar ratio. The same analysis provides values for the chemical shifts of protons in the uncomplexed steroid, and in the steroid-europium complex the latter value is not accessible by direct measurement, since the complex is always in equilibrium with the free steroid. The mathematical equations presented in this paper should be generally applicable. In another paper the validity of various procedures for interpreting lanthanide-induced shifts is explored comments on cholesterol are included. No one mathematical model at present available is considered to have general validity. [Pg.295]

The basis for applying the LIS quantitatively to problems in stereochemistry depends upon expressions including the term (3 cos2 — l)r-3, where r is the distance from the carbon to the lanthanide ion and the angle d is defined by the symmetry axis of the complex and the vector from the lanthanide ion to the carbon in question. This application depends on a LIS imposed entirely by the pseudocontact mechanism. It has been shown that the contact mechanism is important for europium and praseodymium complexes in 13C NMR for distances up to four bonds from the site of complexation, and that ytterbium complexes interact with 13C nuclei largely, if not entirely, by the pseudocontact process. In this review, the synthesis, properties, and applications in optoelectronic fields of polyfluorenes with on-chain metal centers have been briefly summarized. Metal complexes involving iridium(III), platinum(II), europium(III), rhenium(I), and ruthenium(II) complex coupled with polyfluorene are surveyed. Efficient energy transfer from polymer main-chain to metal-centers can occur in these host-guest systems. These kinds of novel polymers are usually applied in the fields of phosphorescent OLEDs, memory devices, and sensors. In particular, the realization of efficient energy transfer and phosphorescence offers a huge potential for future optoelectronic devices based on these kinds of materials. [Pg.142]
