Ethylene-Chlorotrifluoroethylene ECTFE Elastomer

Ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene is extremely resistant to sun, weather, and ozone attack. Its physical properties undergo very little change after long exposures. [Pg.542]

The chemical resistance of ECTFE is outstanding. It is resistant to most of the common corrosive chemicals encountered in industry. Included in this list of chemicals are strong mineral and oxidizing acids, alkalies, metal etchants, liquid oxygen, and practically all organic solvents except hot amines (aniline, dimethylamine, etc.). No known solvent dissolves or stress cracks ECTFE at temperatures up to 250°F (120°C). [Pg.542]

Some halogenated solvents can cause ECTFE to become slightly plasticized when it comes into contact with them. Under normal circumstances, this does not impair the usefulness of the polymer. When the part is removed from contact with the solvent and allowed to dry, its mechanical properties return to their original values, indicating that no chemical attack has taken place. [Pg.542]

As with other fluoropolymers, ECTFE will be attacked by metaUic sodium and potassium. [Pg.542]

The useful properties of ECTFE are maintained on exposure to cobalt-60 radiation of 200 Mrads. [Pg.542]
