For pure fluids (e.g. water, glycerine, ethyl alcohol, acetic acid) Bloembergen et al. [1] found theoretically and experimentally a correlation between the NMR relaxation times T and 72 > respectively, and the dynamic viscosity ii of Newtonian fluids, which is valid independently of temperature and pressure. Harz [3] could show that this correlation also holds for aqueous solutions like treacles, fruit juices, beer and wine. Further studies on silicone oil/glass sphere suspensions and beer mashes demonstrated that the 72-11 correlation, which originally was exclusively derived for Newtonian fluids, can also be applied to suspensions [4]. In contrast to solutions, the dependence is nonpotential. [Pg.584]

In addition, Aparicio and Alcalde reported ethyl lactate density and dynamic viscosity for a wide range of pressures and temperatures. Density values are relatively large, pointing to an efficient packing of the ethyl lactate molecules. Also Chen and Chu" and Riddick et al reported the dynamie viscosity for ethyl lactate at atmospheric pressure (Table 20.4.3). Ethyl lactate does not have high viscosity which could hinder its application as solvent in heat and mass transfer operations. [Pg.741]

The fluorescent probe 4-aminophthalimide (63) as well as its /V,/V-diethyl homomorph (89) were used by Samanta and coworkers148 149 to study the polarity and fluorescence dynamics in l-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium salts. The alkyl groups were variously ethyl, butyl and octyl and the anions were nitrate, tetrafluoroborate, hexafluorophosphate and bis(triflyl)imide. Similar conclusions were reached concerning the effects of alkyl chain length and anion as those obtained by Carmichael and Seddon142 using Nile Red. The solvation dynamics were found to depend on the viscosity of the media. Further use of 63 in l-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate was reported by Ingram and... [Pg.398]

Details are given of the preparation of model ethyl acrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer latices by non-seeded semicontinuous emulsion copolymerisation. Polydispersity was examined using dynamic and static light scattering. Correlations between hydrodynamic volume and viscosity properties of the dispersions are discussed. The different character of the particle structure was confirmed by differences in particle disintegration after alkali addition or in the presence of methanol. 19 refs. [Pg.66]

The temperature dependence of viscosity is a phenomenon where the viscosity (q) of a liquid decreases or equivalently its fluidity (q-1) increases with the temperature. Normally, the viscosity of a liquid is a non-linear function of temperature. (At low temperature values increases sharply, and at high temperatures approaches to a small value asymptotically). Ribeiro et al[134] reported the use of molecular dynamics simulations (MDS) in order to evaluate the influence of alkoxy chain units on the viscosity of a Quaternary Ammonium Ionic Liquid. The MD simulations revealed differences on cation correlation between ILs N-ethyl-N,N,-dimethyl-N-(2-methoxyethyl) ammonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([N2,i,i,2-OR][NTf2]) and N-ethyl-N,N,-dimethyl-N-butyl ammonium... [Pg.79]
