Eine effektive, reversible Schutzgruppe fur Benzimidazole ist l-Chlormethoxy-2-trimethylsilyl-ethan (SEM — Cl), das in Dimethylformamid zu l-[(2-Trimethylsilyl-ethoxy)-methoxy]-benz-imidazol [50% Sdp. 220°/0,2 Torr (26,7 Pa)] kondensiert. Die so geschiitzten Heterocyclen sind wesentlich weniger feuchtigkeitsempfindlich als die (l-Diethoxy-methyl)-Derivate (s.S.357). Man kann die SEM-Schutzgruppe in siedendem Tetrahydrofuran mit Tetrabutyl-ammonium-fluorid leicht wieder entfernen508. 

Auf die gleiche Weise erhalt man z.B. Bis-[dipropargyloxy-thiophosphoryl]-disulfan3sl (58%) sowie Bis-[ethoxy-methoxy-thiophosphoryl]-disulfan35i (70%)-Ein technisch einfaches Verfahren stellt die Oxidation mit Natriumhypochlorit (Chorlau-ge) (in Wasser, pH 6-10,10-15°) dar z. B. Bis- [diisopropyloxy-thiophosphoryl]-disulfan (-100% Schmp. 85-890)359.

Alkoxysilanes are activated through hydrolysis, the rate of which depends both on the pH and on the type of organofunctional and silicon functional groups. The silicon functional group significantly influences the hydrolysis rate. Reactivity is as follows propoxy ethoxy < methoxy. Typically, a large excess of water is used as reactant under these conditions, it was found that hydrolysis of alkoxysilanes is a (pseudo) first-order reaction.
