ET mediator

Given that ET through proteins is fundamental to many biological processes and that H-bonds are prevalent in proteins, it is important to determine how efficiently ET can be mediated by H-bonds. Of the several studies which have been reported, that by Therien is of particular interest since it provides a comparative study of ET mediated by saturated bonds and by H-bonds.1341... [Pg.280]

Initiation by electrochemical induction may have the disadvantage of low yields of substitution due to the reduction of the radicals formed near the electrode, mainly in those cases in which the radical anion of the halide compound fragments at a considerably high rate. Redox catalysis, that is activation involving a suitable ET mediator, is an important means to avoid termination steps in electrochemically induced reactions. This approach has been extensively studied by the Saveant group15. A general equation has been proposed in order to predict the yield of ET-initiated S l chain reactions and related mechanisms under preparative electrochemical conditions in the presence of a redox mediator35. [Pg.1399]

This trend is nicely revealed by the ET distance dependence studies carried out on the SAMs of unsaturated bridges shown in Fig. 24. The /3 value for ET mediated by the saturated polymethylene bridge, determined from conducting probe atomic force microscopy, is 0.94 A-1 (Fig. 24a).121 (/3 for this system is also given in Fig. 19e, but in units of bond-1 all /3 values listed in Fig. 24 are in A-1 units because they were reported in this form in the literature.). A similar /3 value of 0.90 A-1 was... [Pg.45]

Since these levels are several eV higher in energy than the n and n levels of most unsaturated donor systems, ET mediated by sueh bridges ean normally occur only by the superexchange mechanism. [Pg.1895]

Eberson has compared the isomer ratios for the acetoxylation of aromatic substrates at the anode with those obtained from different oxidants (Table 1) [26]. The anodic reaction proceeds by an initial electron transfer, thus forming a radical cation, which is then attacked by acetate ion. The homogeneous reactions, which come closest to the results of the anodic oxidation, are the Co(III)Wi2O40 and the Ag(II) oxidation. These and also the Ce(IV) oxidant, which still exhibits some similarities in the isomer distribution, have been characterized as electron transfer oxidants, whereas the Pd(II)-catalyzed acetoxylation has been shown to proceed via organopalladium species [27]. The isomer distributions in the latter, where predominantly meta orientation is being observed, are drastically different from those of ET-mediated reactions. [Pg.210]

SECM has been used for the studies of ET through monolayers supported at soIid/Uquid (105, 106), liquid/liquid (107-109) and air/water interfaces (110). In the case of a soUd/ liquid interface, the rates of ET mediated by monolayer-attached redox moieties and direct ET through the film as well as the rate of a bimolecular ET reaction between the attached and dissolved redox species have been measured using SECM (105). The monolayer may contain redox centers (Figure 12.25a) or simply act as a blocking layer (Figure 12.25b). [Pg.515]
