Erosivity, definition

ImfeldT Dental erosion. Definition, classification and links. Eur J Oral Sci 1996 104 151-155. Hutchings IM Tribology Friction and Wear of Engineering Materials. London, Edward Arnold, 1992. [Pg.102]

The fluid being pumped is often not well defined. Terminology like well water, industrial effluent, raw water, boiler feed water, condensate water, etc., is usually the only definition we have of the fluid being pumped. Any of these fluids can contain several concentrations of. solids that cause erosion and wear inside the pump. [Pg.232]

A more precise definition of corrosion is provided by ISO in ISO 8044 (see Reference 120). Attack of metal surfaces by the mechanical action of solid materials is properly described as erosion and is not discussed here. [Pg.776]

CVD/PVD thin films are usually considered as coatings having a thickness of less than ten microns. This is an arbitrary limitation and perhaps a better definition would be a coating that adds little if any mass to the substrate. Most thin films, in fact, are much less than 10 im and may be even less than 0.2 im in the newer semiconductor and optical designs, while some wear and erosion applications can be much thicker than 10 im. [Pg.109]

Where e is the excess acid in mol/L and ionic concentrations are expressed as mol/L. While this more precise definition may apply in some strictly chemical responses such as soil erosion, Biydges and Summers 19) have considered the more complete reactions including biological ionic utilizations and have defined an "acidifying potential" of precipitation as ... [Pg.41]

More definitive evidence of enzymatic attack was obtained with 1 1 copolymers of e-caprolactone and 6-valerolactone crosslinked with varying amounts of a dilactone (98,99). The use of a 1 1 mixture of comonomers suppressed crystallization and, together with the crosslinks, resulted in a low-modulus elastomer. Under in vitro conditions, random hydrolytic chain cleavage, measured by the change in tensile properties, occurred throughout the bulk of the samples at a rate comparable to that experienced by the other polyesters no weight loss was observed. However, when these elastomers were implanted in rabbits, the bulk hydrolytic process was accompanied by very rapid surface erosion. Weight loss was continuous, confined to the... [Pg.105]

Rheumatoid arthritis Indicated only in adult patients meeting criteria for classic or definite rheumatoid arthritis as specified by the American Rheumatism Association. Restrict use to patients with severe, active, and erosive disease not responsive to conventional management. [Pg.1931]

All these results can be deduced from the modelling of the wind erosion of the bed. The decrease rate goes higher, when the cover rate, noted tdc, increases. This can be explained by the modelling of the pavement, described in part 2.3. The reduction increment of the lift force is inversely proportional to the erosion depth (Eq. (6)). According to the definition of the erosion depth, the higher is the proportion of non-erodible particles, the smallest is the erosion depth. Consequently, when the proportion of non-erodible particles is increased, the reduction increment becomes greater and the temporal decrease is faster. [Pg.164]

Further study, including more detailed corrosion and erosion information and an alternative investment comparison, would be needed to make a definitive recommendation. [Pg.1172]
