Ergot hydrogenated

P-Blockers yield yellow to pink-colored chromatogram zones on a colorless ba ground, which, like the zones of the ergot alkaloids and hydrogenated ergot alkalo can usually be exdted to blue fluorescence on irradiation with long-wavelength UV li (A, = 365 nm) [1, 3]. 

Some of these natural products—and drugs made from them—are known collectively as the ergot alkaloids, and have found use in medicine. Ergonovine, for example, is a selective stimulant for contraction of uterine muscle and is used in conjunction with labor and delivery. A mixture of hydrogenated ergot alkaloids—reduced at the 9,10-position—has found... 

Pramipexole is not an ergot derivative, but it has preferential affinity for the D3 family of receptors. It is effective as monotherapy for mild parkinsonism and is also helpful in patients with advanced disease, permitting the dose of levodopa to be reduced and smoothing out response fluctuations. Pramipexole may ameliorate affective symptoms. A possible neuroprotective effect has been suggested by its ability to scavenge hydrogen peroxide and enhance neurotrophic activity in mesencephalic dopaminergic cell cultures. 

Hydroxylation of clavine alkaloids in vitro can be brought about by horseradish peroxidase using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant, and numerous other tissues (70). This leads only to 8-hydroxylation, e.g., no elymoclavine (54) can be detected from 53. On the other hand, this hydroxylation step also occurs in ergot as a minor metabolic pathway, but it will not be considered here in detail. Rotational Motions. In addition to molecular vibrational motions, one can use neutrons to characterize the rotation of a molecule about its center of mass. If the position of the hydrogen atoms in a molecule rotates as a function of time in such a way that the relative positions of the atoms move with a constant radius d, but the motion is such that the terminus of the vector d moves randomly or ergotically on the surface of the sphere this motion is referred to as rotational diffusion. This motion can also provide insight into the nuclear density. An example of this is shown in Figure 10.

DIHYDROERGOTAMINE This alkaloid is obtained by partial hydrogenation of ergot-amine. It is used in the treatment of migraine as a relatively weak vasoconstrictor. 

Ergot.—When [17- H, C]chanoclavine-I (110) was administered to Claviceps, the elymoclavine (112) isolated showed a 53% tritium retention, indicating that in the conversion of (110) to (112) one of the methylene hydrogens at C-17 is lost. This suggested the possible intermediacy of chanoclavine-I-aldehyde (111) in this sequence, and indeed (111) with a C-17 tritium label was significantly better incorporated into elymoclavine than was chanoclavine-I the tritium...
