Equipment High-Pressure Homogenizers

In the past, the majority of high-pressure homogeneous catalytic reactions were conducted in batch systems, which may cause problems in scale-up for SCFs because of the higher pressures needed for achieving the supercritical state. Therefore, continuous processing has also been investigated in the last years. It would be preferable for industrial-scale SCF reactions, because it involves smaller and, hence, safer equipment [144-150]. In addition, capital costs are likely to be lower than in batch systems. [Pg.129]

Many types of emulsification equipment are widely appUed in industry, such as high pressure homogenizers and rotor-stator systems. In these machines the premix droplets are deformed and disrupted in the flow field of the emulsification device [1]. In addition to these techniques, alternative methods for the production of emulsions using microporous devices have been developed since the early 1990s. [Pg.283]

High-pressure homogenizers are commonly used today in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic as well as the food industry. They are equipped typically with... [Pg.117]

A homogenize is a high pressure positive pump with three, five, or seven pistons, that is driven by a motor and equipped with an adjustable homogenizing valve. Smoother flow and greater capacity are obtained with more pistons, which force the product iato a chamber that feeds the valve. In design and operation, it is desirable to minimize the power requirements for obtaining an acceptable level of homogenization. At 17.2 MPa (2500 psi) and a volume of 0.91 t/h (2000 lb/h), a 56-kW (75-hp) motor is required. [Pg.354]
