Since there is virtually no turnover of proteins in the lens with aging, it can be expected that aging and environmental stress factors lead to changes in protein structure and water content of the lens, and that these changes... 

The environmental stress factors are extremely important in synthesis and accumulation of proteins (enzymatic, structural, signal, metabolism-related, including proteins which protect the organism, for example, defense proteins, known as stress proteins, or pathogen-related proteins, which are allergens—see Chapter 5) (McKersie and Leshem 1994, Yagami 2000).

Offshore wind turbines endure higher stresses than onshore wind turbines such as environmental and power utilizations ones, due to being located in the marine environment. Thus, they experience higher failure rates (Karyotakis Bucknall 2010) and for this reason onshore failure distributions are not adequate for modelling the behaviour and performance of an offshore wind turbine. However, there is a lack of available reliability data of offshore wind turbines (Karyotakis Bucknall 2010), in fact only a few field data exists in the public domain (Tavner 2012). Consequently, power rating and environmental stress factors for mechanical systems (Davidson 1994) are considered in the present study as an empirical approach to derive failure distributions for the offshore wind turbine components from the typical onshore failure models (Ding Tian 2012) of Table 7.

Obviously, much more quantitative work remains to establish the hypothesis of allelopathy in the Florida scrub. It is likely that sophisticated bioassays will also be required, in which low doses of allelochemicals are applied for long periods of time under environmental conditions that mimic the harsh environment of the scrub. Environmental stress factors such as temperature and nutrient limitation are known to increase the toxicity of allelochemicals (Einhellig Eckrich 1984 Einhellig 1987, 1989).
